The central focus of Gorge Sport USA is to interact with sailors. Gsport fin design is based on testing with real world sailors. Our fins are designed to love the water.

The Fin is 1/3 of the Board, Rig and Fin System.

Your fin is the wing that helps you fly with the wind. It is important to select a good fin whether your board is brand-new or ten years old. The board with the best fin will give better range, and a smoother ride.

Using a good fin is just as important as using fine tuned rigs and the right board. Good aftermarket fins outperform stock fins that come with boards. Use aftermarket fins for the same reason you use aftermarket rigs.

  • Fin companies make the best fins.
  • Rig companies make the best rigs.
  • Board companies the best boards.

You get a better ride and more versatility from your board and rig by organizing a fin quiver just as you do a sail or board quiver. The fin is the final link for sailors of all skills and critical to performance. A three fin quiver per board is recommended. One or two of those fins may work well on other boards, thus four or five fins may give three or more choices on two boards!

Organize your fin quiver across all your rigs and boards.

  • A large fin will plane early, extending the lighter wind range of each board.
  • A medium fin will give a great all around performance.
  • A small fin will increase mobility, control, and allow more radical moves.

Gsport has designs to maximize all potential skill levels and water conditions.

For most boards and winds, three of the below fins will make a fin quiver for one board. If you own another board with the same fin box, you may only need one or two more for a three fin quiver to maximize range on two boards.

  1. Boards will plane earlier if you select a bigger fin. For mid-range, use a slightly smaller fin.
  2. If the board is unstable at cruising speeds or spins out (assuming it is positioned correctly and fastened securely in the box), your fin is usually the problem, either from poor design, workmanship or wrong sizing.
  3. Change fins as the wind changes. A fin quiver of fins will extend the range of your board. You can plane earlier, cruise smoother, and quiet the board significantly as it gets windier by changing the fin.

Did you know good fins virtually eliminate spinout?

A common misconception is that spinout is about the sailor. We rarely see spinout not largely corrected by using a correctly specified fin! You will not believe the better ride!

Conclusion:

  • The board is important. Good boards: $1,095 to $2,500. Quiver to $7,500+.
  • The Sail and Rig are important too. Good rigs $900 to $2,000. Quiver to $6,000+.
  • The fin is just as important. Good fins: $99 to $225. Quiver $600 to $1,100+.

Investing in high quality fins will yield a far greater return-on-investment than any other purchase in windsurfing. You will feel an immediate difference regardless of skill level. And spinout is almost nonexistent.
